(a) Bereavement leave must be arranged with the appropriate supervisor through a written request. This must be done as soon as practical. The request must be executed by the employee. It must state the relationship between the deceased and the employee and the length of time needed for the requested absence.

(b) All regular, full-time employees will be granted a paid leave of up to three (3) consecutive work days in the event of the death in the employee's immediate family. "Employee's immediate family" for purposes of this section, shall mean an employee's spouse, child, parent, grandfather, grandmother, grandchild, sibling, step-child, step-parent, step-grandchild, half-sibling, corresponding in-laws, and other residents of the household of an employee.

(c) All regular, full-time employees will be granted one (1) day of leave in the event of the death of a cousin, aunt, or uncle.

(d) In the event of the death of a family member not in the immediate family, an employee should use personal time.

(e) In extenuating circumstances, the Town Manager may approve extended bereavement leave.
