After the issuance of any building permit hereunder, the owner or contractor shall cause to be made such inspections of work being done under such permit as are necessary to ensure full compliance with the intent of this code and the terms of the permit.

There shall not be less than ten (10) inspections for every new construction building permit, unless deemed not necessary by the Building Commissioner, which inspections shall be made in the following scheduled order, namely:

INSPECTIONS (NEW CONSTRUCTION)

(1) Footing Pre-Pour. Dig hole and place footing forms, call for an inspection.

(2) Foundation Pre-Pour. Place wall forms and rebar, call for inspection.

(3) Sewer Test. Inspection to assure proper installation of water, sanitary and storm sewer taps.

(4) Backfill. Drain tile and sump pits must be installed at this point along with dampproofing.

(5) Underground Plumbing. Inspection of any under-slab plumbing and/or ejector pits prior to pouring a slab floor.

(6) Pre-Pour for Concrete Flat Work. Pre-pour inspections before the basement, slab, and/or garage floors are poured. Also, before any exterior concrete flat work is poured, such as driveways, aprons, city walks, service walks, or patios.

(7) Plumbing Pressure Test. Pressurize the gas and water supply lines in the home and call for inspection.

(8) Rough Electric. Must pass this inspection before the rough building inspection is requested.

(9) Rough Building. Inspection due before insulation is allowed. Rough framing, plumbing, and HVAC should also be ready at this inspection.

(10) Insulation. Inspection of installed insulation, upon approval structure can be drywalled.

(11) Dry Wall Pretape. Inspection of proper installation of drywall and fasteners.

(12) Final Electric. Inspection when all electrical work is complete; must be inspected before final building and plumbing requested.

(13) Early Service. Inspection of electrical service equipment, may be requested at any stage of construction. Upon approval, electrical service from NIPSCO can be released.

(14) Final Building. Final inspection of building, plumbing, and HVAC before occupancy granted.

(15) Reinspection. There shall be an additional fee of forty dollars ($40.00) in the event an inspection is made and the work is not in conformance with the intent of this code.

(16) If the water department representative arrives on site to install the water meter for a structure and it is determined that the structure is not ready for the meter to be installed, the general contractor shall be charged a forty dollar ($40.00) reinspection fee.
